Plain English !!!!
Recently David Harvey Managing Director Portico GB Ltd gave an
hour long Continuous Professional Development talk on windows
and doors in the new build industry with regard to Secure By
design, Lifetime Homes, CDM regulations and all the building
regulations in brief and how they all come together, very often
being in conflict with each other.
"We try not to be just another window company" David explained
"this talk helps us to help the technical guys and surveyors to
initially build in the right product, hopefully ours, therefore
saving costly drawing changes later on especially after planning
permission granted".
The talk given to award winning home developer Weston Homes PLC
prompted this response which really sums up exactly the the aim
on this presentation:
"Morning
Dave, trust you are well.
Just a quick follow up email to say thanks for coming in and
presenting to us and some feedback for you.
Everyone is in agreement that the level of technicality was spot
on: all from the technical department took something useful away
and from what I’ve heard from the commercial team they all
followed along without it getting too deep. Even as I’m typing
this email Helen is using your check list to go through what we
are issuing for our job in Cambridge.
There was praise regarding the fact that you stuck to the
printed Power Point slides that were issued to us with no major
deviation (which is very common with other CPD’s) which made it
easy to follow.
From a personal point of view I very much liked the fact that
you highlighted to everyone just how many rules, regulations &
guidance’s there are to be followed and that at present there
are some serious conflicts between LTH & SBD, etc.
All in all everyone is in agreement that your presentation has
been one of the most useful CPD’s we have had in the office. It
was also very refreshing to have someone come in with the aim of
teaching us something over the course of the hour and not
furnish us with a small bit of info & then give us a 50 minute
sales pitch...
If and when you do update the Power Point presentation I would
very much appreciate a copy to forward round the office for use
as a checklist.
Thanks again.
Regards,
David Wilkins,
Architectural Technician, Weston Homes Plc"
